Ink and Fountain Pens

Sketching in ink is my favorite!

This is a collection of notes/items related to fountain pens and inks.

Pens I Like

Kaweco Sport

  • Pen and Converter from JetPens

  • The brass pen version is lovely but more expensive, the plastic ones also perform well.

  • The nibs are very consistent, though I prefer fine detail work with a different pen brand. The F and M nib sizes are nice with the Kaweco.

  • You can either get cartridges or a refillable converter.

Pilot Kakuno

  • Pen and Converter from JetPens

  • The EF nib is my favorite, it’s one of the most consistent fine lines I’ve seen.

Inks I Like

  • Platinum Carbon Ink:

    • This ink is extremely waterproof and doesn’t bleed with watercolor, gouache, or alcohol markers. It’s my favorite.

    • The Platinum Pigment Brun Sepia is also very nice and doesn’t bleed with watercolor, gouache, or alcohol markers.

    • This ink isn’t encouraged for fountain pens but I’ve been using it without issue. I just need to clean my pens a bit more often.

  • Jaques Herbin Inks:

    • These inks aren’t waterproof but flow very nicely and come in a variety of colors. Very easy to clean.

Supplies I Recommend

  • Ink Syringe for cleaning

  • Glass dropper for moving ink

  • Small glass container for filling fountain pens (depending on the size of your ink bottle you may/may not be able to fill directly from the bottle)

  • Cortado glasses for cleaning (or a larger size glass - glass is easier to clean ink out of)

  • Plastic reusable gloves (help keep ink off your hands when refilling pens)
